The Principal Certificate program at Pitt is a 100% online, accelerated pathway designed for educators who aspire to make a meaningful impact as school leaders. Meeting all Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification requirements, this graduate certificate equips teachers, school counselors, curriculum directors and other education professionals with the skills to improve the lives of children, families and communities.

Through coursework in instructional and institutional leadership, school law, mental health and safety, and systemwide support systems, you’ll gain the comprehensive knowledge needed to lead effectively in diverse school settings. A required internship within a school district provides hands-on experience that directly connects theory to practice. Upon completion, graduates meet the academic requirements for the K-12 Principal Certification in Pennsylvania, preparing them to confidently step into leadership roles and drive positive change across their entire school community.
