Advance Your Expertise in Master of Studies in Law
The Professional Master of Studies in Law (MSL) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law is a 30-credit advanced degree for graduates and mid-career professionals who don’t intend to practice law but want a versatile alternative to the traditional three-year Juris Doctor (JD). Law influences nearly every aspect of business and life, yet higher education often leaves professionals unprepared to navigate it. The MSL closes that gap with specialized knowledge of laws and legal systems. Pitt Law offers one of the oldest, most established MSL programs in the country. Available online since 2021, it delivers efficiency, flexibility, and affordability earning your master’s in as little as two years, part-time.
The 15-credit Online MSL core consists of 7 short courses (5–8 weeks each), taken one at a time with your starting cohort. Courses are asynchronous, so you work at your own pace. Materials are built specifically for professional students, combining essential legal and policy content with real workplace application.
Pitt Law professors guide each course, and provide personalized feedback. You will pair the 15-credit core with a 15-credit specialized certificate to earn both your MSL and a professional certificate.
